INTERVIEW: AARON COHEN
Tell us a little about your new album Potential Fans. What was the writing/recording process like?
Potential Fans is my best work so far. It’s kind of a statement, saying if you didn’t believe in me, you will now. My writing process is pretty much always the same. I spend hours going through tons of beats. When I find one that I like I put it on my phone, put my headphones, walk around and make up songs. I spend most of the time on the verses, the hooks come real quick.
-How has it been working with Decon on this record release?
It’s been great working with Decon. I think we have the same vision in regard to where my career is going and how to present what I’m doing.
-We loved your “My Mother and My Music” video, any new videos coming up?
Glad you guys liked it. Yeah I just dropped another one called Nickvanexelrose. And I just shot another one with Jason Ano (the same guy who did “My Mother and My Music”) for a track off of my tape featuring Grande Marshall called “Why You Mad For.” It’s gonna be crazy.
-It’s starting to get cold on the East Coast, are you happy to get some sunshine while you’re out in LA?
Yeah it’s nice. I was wearing like four layers when I got on the plane at JFK. I got off the plane in LA like “god damn it’s 85 degrees out.” It’s definitely good to get some sun and palm trees and shit before grinding through the winter in New York.
-What albums have you been listening to lately?
I listen to all types of stuff. But right now I’m mostly listening to beats for my next project.
Aaron Cohen is playing LIVE in Los Angeles at The Lyric Theatre w/ ALEXANDER SPIT NYLO and DREAM PANTHER TONIGHT!
